so tanner (male, nephew, 14 years old, almost as big as me, very studly) is working on his eagle project. he needs to earn some moolah so he can buy rice and repackage them and stuff. anyway, so what does he decide to do? babysit!! he basically sent out an email to the fam and invited all the parents to come and drop off their children for a handful of hours and he would babysit them. he did it for two different days. he charged different amounts depending on how many children the parents left. he did one of them last night. 18 kids (not including the mask children) 5pm to 10pm. for those of you who aren't on top of your math skills, that would be 24 (twenty-four) children and 5 (five) hours. they basically fed them pizza then let them play then watched a movie. it was a lot of fun to watch him take care of everyone there. when the movie ended, it was 9:30. 4 kids were asleep and 2 had been picked up. tanner had another game planned. it's called the candy bar game. yes, it involves candy bars. it's basically a white elephant gift exchange, but with candy bars. anyway, the point it, we were still handing out sugar at 9:45. if you recall, there were 18 (eighteen) children playing this game. at one point, the time was almost out. so naturally, all of them were yelling. literally. screeching might be a better word. i had been texting my dear friend allison (19, female, great friend, insane) in utah and sent this text to her at 9:52pm:
so right now, they're playing some game. and they're yelling. top of their lungs. all of them. aka i don't know how anyone in the universe is still sleeping...
she sent this back:
...i thought i heard a faint collection of adolescent voices raised in a hair raising choir of torture...i mean, i assumed it was just a dying deer or a vicious racoon...but i see now that it is coming from arizona :)
i feel like that summed it all up nicely :)
all in all, i feel like it was a very successful night. i had fun. the kids had fun. and tanner is that much closer to finishing his eagle! way to go T!!! side note: cloudy with a chance of meatballs? greatest. movie. ever. any quote or scene pulled from that movie is applicable to our everyday lives.
