africa, day 1
wednesday, march 8th. craig, dan, me, bret, waiting for our flight to atlanta.
we met up with brad in atlanta, where we boarded the plane we would be on for the next 15 hours.
it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be.
there were movies and food and i slept for 8 or 9 of those hours.
as we were filling out our immigration card, we realized we didn’t know the parents’ address.
so we just got in line and hoped we wouldn’t have any problems.
the guy that i went to said “welcome to south africa mami.” i loved that.
none of us had any problems.
dan came the closest to having trouble.
the lady asked him where he was staying. when he simply replied “just at my friend's parents’ house,” she asked “what will you do if their plans are to sell you?”
he hadn’t thought about that.
”that’s not good. enjoy your stay in south africa.”
so the parents and charisse and thelissa and naomi picked us up.
as we were eating dinner and chatting and stuff, we were talking about what we were doing the next day.
mom was telling us about the game drives we were having.
she told us that we should go early in the morning so the lions are frisky.
brad asked the question on all of our minds: “frisky is not synonymous with nibbly is it?”
some of us were a bit nervous, so mom tried easing our fears.
“a cheetah has never really attacked a human." --mom
"...never really?" --brad
"never killed...you could get mauled pretty bad, but not killed." –mom
this will be fun.
also—thunderstorms in johannesburg are my favorite thing.
and my new favorite smell? the rain in johannesburg. this is the real deal.
stay tuned for more adventures :)
