“cherish all your happy moments: they make a fine cushion for old age.”–christopher morley

want to have a really good day?
like a really good one?
like an amazing one?
well, i just happened to have one.
so i’ll share.
first, make sure you’re friends with the most amazing apartment of awesome guys in your ward.
then suggest that your apartment and their apartment should have breakfast together on your day off.
because it will probably lead to them offering to make you breakfast.
that’s pretty much an awesome way to start your day.
then hang out for a bit.
then go get j-dawgs and play frisbee at a park.
(make sure that at one point or another, there are people riding in the trunk of the car—not that we did that, but i can imagine it would be fun...)
then go home and chill for a bit.
then go rock climbing with one of your best friends.
not rock climbing like at a gym.
you know, with padded walls and stuff.
oh no...like outside.
like in the wilderness.
or up in rock canyon.
either one.
so i’ve been climbing with this friend before.
except it was at a gym.
and i wasn’t that good.
so i was surprised when he wanted to go with me.
well...let me rephrase that.
he really wanted to go, but the guy he was gonna go with wasn’t responding.
and he couldn’t go by himself.
so i went along.
i was hyperventilating the whole way there,
terrified out of my mind.
i was sure that i was gonna fall to my death.
and if i didn’t, i was sure that my friend would.
and that was gonna be a problem because i don’t know how to drive stick (his truck is stick).
so we get there, and he starts going up, hooking his hook things as he goes (he would probably disown me for not using their proper names—but he’ll get over it.).
then he gets to the top and comes back down.
then he starts untying the rope and hooking me up.
then i got terrified again.
but i climbed up.
did i mention that it was 70 feet?
and it took me a really long time.
but i did it!
and i did it barefoot too!
i was very proud of myself!
i'm glad i had a really good belayer.
i probably would have died had he not been there.
ok so i would have died.
regardless, i was very glad he was below me.
anyway, then he had to go up and unhook everything.
it took him about 12 seconds.
but i was still proud.
and then he kept climbing.
and he did harder ones.
and then he was on the hardest one he’s ever done outside.
and he’s climbing up like a maniac.
and then he fell.
and because his last hook was far-ish down, he fell kinda far, meaning i kinda flew up in the air for a second.
it was intense.
and exciting.
and slightly terrifying.
but i saved his life.
so it’s all good.
but despite the fact that i’m not really that much of a climber,
i had a lot of fun.
i understand why my dear friend is obsessed with climbing.
it’s fun.
quite the rush.
all in all, it’s been a fantastic day :)
