so last wednesday, i was still in the blessed state of arizona.
my good friend lindsay woolf was getting married and rylee and i were planning on going to her reception that night.
we both love lindsay.
plus who doesn't love cake? and crepes? and reception food in general? come on now...
so rylee comes to pick me up and off we went.
a couple days earlier, i had map quested the place we were going and knew exactly how to get there from my sister's house.
north on gilbert, west on main, north on robson. easy.
just one problem--i didn't check to see how far west on main we had to go.
so when we hit center street, i told rylee to turn around because i was afraid we had missed it.
as she was flipping the U-ey (i just realized i have no idea how to spell that), i joked and told her it was probably the next light and we'd have to come all the way back. {foreshadowing}
we called rylee's momma for directions.
sure enough, the street robson was that next light.
ridiculous.
U-turn #2 of the night.
we had just passed center street, when who should we run into (in a figurative sense)?
a cop who quickly saw that the car's registration was overdue.
annoying. and we were so close!
we were literally a stone's throw from our turn. literally. it was like ten feet in front of us.
and to make matters worse, rylee didn't have her drivers license. silly girl.
while the cop is doing his business in his own car, another cop car pulls up.
this one guy comes up and taps on my window and then chats it up with us. he had just gotten off duty and had come to back up our cop.
it was strange. and he wasn't even married. (lest you think i'm a total weirdo, i study at byu where i find myself ring-checking anyone and everyone)
so the cop finally comes back and tells us to switch and have me drive since i'm the responsible one and told us we should go straight home.
yeah not a chance.
he followed us for a bit so i circled around the block, but as soon as he stopped following us, we went straight to the reception, then went straight home.
we're rebels.
fast forward to friday, when i was scheduled to fly back to provo.
the flight to LA went well, and part of that could have been because i was in first class.
(when i booked my flight, i was using miles, and the only option i had was to have a layover. ridiculous, i know)
i had heard that LA was having some weather troubles, and while i was sitting at my gate, a flight got cancelled.
i was a little worried.
then they came on and said that our flight was gonna be delayed.
then they came on and said that our flight was gonna be delayed a bit more.
then they came on and said that our flight was cancelled.
wait what?
so they rebooked us all for the next flight out in the morning, and gave us all these coupon things that would get us a hotel for a discounted rate.
made it to the hotel, slept for 3 hours (probably should have just slept in the terminal), and went back to the airport the next morning way early to make sure i wouldn't have any problems.
which i didn't. it all went smoothly.
then when i went outside in salt lake, i about froze to death.
then i saw that cute boy with the pretty flower and i forgot how cold i was.
then that cute boy and i spent the whole rest of the day together.
he took me to breakfast, and then we did our gift exchange (i left for arizona early, so we decided it would be less stressful if we did our christmas after i got back), then we watched a movie.
new year's celebrations included lots of junk food, watching lord of the rings #2 with his roommates (i have now seen 2/3 of the series) and a new years kiss with that cute boy. oh and drinking lots of martinelli's. that's a given.
it was a fabulous way to end the year.
and today was another fabulous day, and a great way to start the new year.
i don't know what this year will hold for me, but i intend to make the most of it.
because...well, why not? :)
